Joe
Bottaro, on old world craftsman, learned the art of creating
fine upholstered furniture in his native Italy. Eventually,
he came to America and opened his upholstery shop on Worthington
Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. Through the 1930's -1940's
he established his reputation as the finest upholsterer in
the area. Using horsehair and tacks Joe built sofas of incomparable
quality and comfort.
Si Skolnick was also in the furniture business in the 1940's.
He established a fine design studio in New York City where
he lived on the Upper East Side with his wife, Lilly, and baby
daughter, Barbara. After a period of time, he decided to move
back to Western massachusetts, Joe and Si formed a partnership,
which became Bottaro-Skolnick Inc.
Over the years Bottaro-Skolnick grew and moved to its present
location in the early 1960's. Bottaro-Skolnick gained a reputation
